Terms of use

The agreement between you and Barnhouse, which makes ScoutDex.

DRAFT · THE DATE IT TAKES EFFECT IS SET AT LAUNCH

1. What ScoutDex is

ScoutDex is desktop software, made by Barnhouse, that shows market prices and headlines on a line across your screen and tells you when conditions you set are met. A plan is a personal licence paid one year ahead.

2. Who sells it to you

Payments are handled by our payment provider, which is the merchant of record. The provider is the seller for payment, invoices, tax and refunds. Barnhouse provides the software.

3. Your licence

  • One licence is for one person.
  • The free ticker runs on one computer. Deck includes three computers; each more is $10 a year, up to five. Beyond five, a second licence.
  • You may not resell the licence, share it beyond its computers, use ScoutDex for anything unlawful, or take the software apart except where the law allows it.

4. Your keys and the services you connect

You connect your own broker, exchange, news and data accounts. Keeping to their terms, including their rules on how prices may be shown, is your responsibility. Your keys stay on your computer; we don’t receive or store them.

5. Not investment advice

ScoutDex shows information and tells you when a condition you set is met. It is not investment advice and does not recommend, rank or evaluate any security. Every decision to buy or sell, and its result, is yours.

6. Prices, alerts and accuracy

Prices and headlines come from the services you connect. ScoutDex is provided as it is. We don’t guarantee that a price is current or correct, or that an alert arrives. Alerts only run while the app is running. Our liability for indirect or consequential loss is limited as far as the law allows.

7. Ownership, patents and names

The software, its design and the ScoutDex name belong to Barnhouse. ScoutDex is the subject of a pending patent application. Your licence lets you use ScoutDex; it does not let you copy it, or build or offer a product that reproduces how it works.

Company names and logos shown next to a symbol identify that company and belong to it.

8. Ending a plan

  • Plans renew automatically each year at the price shown when you bought. You can turn renewal off at any time in your account, and nothing more is charged from the next renewal date.
  • If renewal is off or a payment fails, the version you have keeps running and your decks keep running on it; only updates stop.
  • If a broker or exchange changes its API, an older version may stop connecting to it until you update.
  • We may end a licence that breaks these terms.

9. Changes and disputes

We tell you before these terms change. Disputes about payment follow the terms of our payment provider as the seller.
