Connections & security
Your prices, your key and your decks each have one place to live. This page says where, and what we can and can’t see.
1 — PRICES
Your computer subscribes to the exchange or your broker itself. Our server isn’t a stop on the way and keeps no copy.
If our server is down, prices keep arriving and the decks already on your ticker keep running. Putting in a new or edited deck waits until it is back, because each deck is checked against your licence when you put it in.
Some brokers send live prices to one program at a time. Connecting ScoutDex can stop live prices in the broker’s own app, so ScoutDex asks before it takes them.
2 — KEYS
Exchange prices are public. A crypto deck runs without an account or a key.
From your broker, or from a market data service you pay for. ScoutDex only reads prices with it and places no orders.
You enter it once in the app, and Windows Credential Manager keeps it. It is never in a backup, a log or a deck you share. It isn’t uploaded or synced, and we can’t recover it. A new computer needs it entered again.
3 — DECKS
The deck you work with is a file on your computer. You can export it as a file or a code at any time. The conditions travel with it. Channel secrets and keys stay on your computer, and holdings are left out unless you include them.
It is encrypted before it leaves your computer, so a second device can pick it up and nothing is lost if your plan lapses. Only you see it. It isn’t shared.
A deck says what you watch and under what conditions. We hold it only in a form we can’t read. Keep your recovery code: without it, we can’t unlock the copy for you either.
4 — ALERTS AND THE STUDIO
The engine that compares prices with your conditions runs next to the ticker. No server of ours watches the market for you.
Close it, or let the computer sleep, and alerts stop. How alerts work →
Alerts appear on the bar, as a Windows notification with sound, or as a message to Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp or a webhook. Your computer sends them. Our server sends nothing.
Steps that need a key or an RSS feed, and putting a deck on the ticker, happen in the app. The web studio hands over with Open in the ScoutDex app, so your key never goes into a web page.
5 — WHAT WE HOLD
We never ask your broker for your positions or your balance, so we don’t have them. The app sends us error reports and usage statistics, so we can fix faults and see how the product is used: the app version, how long it was on, what went wrong, how many decks and lines you have, which features you used, and which kinds of connection you use (crypto, broker, news). It doesn’t send symbol names, deck contents, alert conditions, keys, account details, or which broker or exchange you use. Both can be turned off in Settings → Data & privacy.
SMALLER QUESTIONS
That would put our server between you and your exchange, and it needs redistribution licences. Your computer can get the prices directly, so we leave it that way.
ScoutDex connects to five brokers and two market data services today. Connect by country lists them by market. Connect by country →
